Moon line astrocartography: home, belonging & where you settle
Last updated: June 2026
Your Moon line is the line drawn from where the Moon sat on an angle at the moment of your birth, projected onto the world map. It marks where you feel at home and emotionally rooted. Its lead use is home and relocation — especially on the lowest (IC) angle, where the place feels like it could be home, you feel emotionally grounded, and what you want there is to stay. The line is calculated from your exact birth chart, and a place within roughly 600 miles, or about 1000 kilometres, of it sits inside its orb of influence.
Generic articles tell you what a Moon line means in the abstract. Your chart tells you exactly where yours runs. Zoracle calculates your real Moon line from your exact birth data and shows which places feel like home and belonging.

What the Moon line means at each angle
The Moon line carries the same feeling wherever it runs, but the angle it sits on decides which part of life that feeling lands in. The four angles each have a distinct meaning.
ASC (rising). You are more open emotionally. Feelings come up easily in conversation, and you stay yourself with people — you arrive in a place with your heart on show.
DES (setting). You connect emotionally with ease. People get you quickly, and the bonds feel like belonging — closeness comes through how others meet you.
MC (culminating). You are emotionally open with people. Your feelings come into your social life — warmth that is visible in how you show up out in the world.
IC (lowest). The place feels like it could be home. You feel emotionally grounded, and what you want here is to stay — this is the angle most tied to home and relocation.
Where your Moon line runs
Your Moon line is not a fixed place on a list — it is calculated from your exact birth chart, so it runs somewhere different for everyone. The line nearest you is the strongest, and its theme tends to feel clearest the closer you sit to it.
A line doesn't only matter at the exact meridian or curve it runs along. Its influence carries roughly 600 miles, or about 1000 kilometres, either side — that span is the orb of influence. Within that orb, the closer you are, the more the Moon theme of home and belonging tends to show up in daily life.

Worked example. A chart born 15 June 1990 at 14:00 UTC has natal Moon at 16°30' Pisces. A planet's MC line is the meridian of longitude where that body was culminating at birth, found from its right ascension and the sidereal time at birth. For this chart, the Moon-MC line runs down the roughly 127.2°W meridian — the eastern-Pacific meridian, with the nearest land the Pacific-Northwest coast of North America. Note that the Moon moves fastest of all, so its lines are the most sensitive to an exact birth time.
Birth: 15 June 1990, 14:00 UTC
Natal Moon: 16°30' Pisces
Moon-MC line: meridian where the Moon was culminating
≈ 127.2°W
eastern Pacific; nearest land the
Pacific-Northwest coast of North America
Birth-time shift:
+1 hour → meridian moves ≈ 15° of longitude
→ ≈ 1,000 km west
The Moon moves fastest, so this line is the
most sensitive of all to an exact birth time.Change the birth time by one hour and that meridian shifts about 15 degrees of longitude — roughly 1,000 kilometres — which is why an exact birth time is essential, and especially so for the Moon. With a wrong or unknown time, the Moon line lands in the wrong place. These positions are calculated from astronomical data using the open-source astronomy-engine library, not lookup-table approximations.
The example above uses one natal Moon position. The maths is the same shape for any chart. Ask Zoracle for your own Moon line →
Frequently asked questions
What does my Moon line mean?
Your Moon line marks where you feel at home and emotionally rooted. It is the line drawn from where the Moon sat on an angle at your birth, projected onto the world. Its lead use is home and relocation, especially on the lowest (IC) angle, where the place feels like it could be home and you feel emotionally grounded.
Where is my Moon line?
Your Moon line runs along the meridian and curves where the Moon was on each of the four angles at your birth, and it is calculated from your exact chart rather than read off a list. The line nearest you is the strongest, and its influence carries roughly 600 miles, or about 1000 kilometres, either side. Because the Moon moves fastest of all, its lines are the most sensitive to an exact birth time.
What is the difference between the Moon line on the ASC, DES, MC and IC?
On the ASC, you are more open emotionally, feelings come up easily in conversation, and you stay yourself with people. On the DES, you connect emotionally with ease, people get you quickly, and the bonds feel like belonging. On the MC, you are emotionally open with people and your feelings come into your social life. On the IC, the place feels like it could be home, you feel emotionally grounded, and what you want here is to stay. Each angle places the same Moon feeling in a different part of life.
Is the Moon line good or bad?
The Moon line is generally a soft, settling line tied to home, belonging, and emotional roots. It is not about hardship. Whether it is right for you depends on what you want from a place: it amplifies feeling and belonging, which is wonderful for settling and emotional comfort and less about ambition or visibility.
Do I need my birth time to find my Moon line?
Yes, more than for any other line. The Moon moves fastest of all, so its lines are the most sensitive to an exact birth time. The angles move about 15 degrees of longitude per hour, so a wrong or unknown time shifts your Moon line by hundreds of miles. With a precise time the line is exact; without one, it lands in the wrong place.
