Saturn retrograde 2026: dates, degrees, and what the review asks
Last updated: July 2026
Saturn stations retrograde on 27 July 2026 at 14°45′ Aries and stations direct on 11 December 2026 at 7°56′ Aries. The retrograde lasts about four and a half months — Saturn's normal annual pattern — and re-treads roughly seven degrees of Aries. In symbolic astrology Saturn rules structure, commitments, and long-term work, so its retrograde is read as a structural audit: plans and commitments built during the direct months are re-tested before Saturn carries them forward. The 2026 review matters most for charts with planets or angles between about 6° and 16° of the cardinal signs, and it runs through the middle of the current Saturn-in-Aries passage (February 2026 to April 2028) — which means it also sits inside the Saturn return of everyone born with Saturn in mid-Aries.
Generic articles tell you Saturn is retrograde. Your chart shows whether the seven review degrees touch anything of yours. Zoracle checks them against your natal planets.

The mechanism
Saturn never actually moves backward. Earth orbits the Sun in one year; Saturn takes 29.4. Once a year Earth overtakes Saturn on the inside, and from our moving viewpoint Saturn appears to slow, stop, reverse for about 140 days, stop again, and resume. The two stops — the stations — are exactly calculable, which is why the dates above are stated to the day.
Symbolically, Saturn is the planet of structure: rules, commitments, career ladders, boundaries, and anything built to last. Direct Saturn is read as laying bricks; retrograde Saturn is read as the inspection — checking whether what was laid this year actually bears weight.
The retrograde re-treads a narrow zone (7°56′ to 14°45′ Aries in 2026). Any natal planet or angle in that zone gets three Saturn passes over roughly a year — first contact, retrograde review, final direct pass — which is the classic shape of a Saturn lesson.
What it tends to feel like
Collectively, Saturn retrograde seasons feel like the brakes easing on without the road changing: deadlines stretch, institutional decisions slow, and things committed to in spring get renegotiated in autumn. The energy supports revision, consolidation, and finishing — and resists brand-new structural commitments.
Personally, the season is loudest for charts with points in the review zone. Common patterns: a commitment made earlier in the year comes back for renegotiation; a shortcut taken under time pressure resurfaces as rework; a boundary set in spring gets stress-tested. The classical advice is to treat the re-appearance as the second draft, not a failure.
For anyone currently in their Saturn return — first return around ages 27-30, second around 57-60 — the 2026 retrograde is the middle act of the return itself: the months where the return's question gets asked a second time, more quietly and more precisely.

Timing — the shape of the season
Station retrograde — 27 July 2026, 14°45′ Aries. Saturn is nearly motionless for weeks around this date. Station degrees are traditionally the strongest contact points of the whole cycle.
The retrograde arc — late July to mid-December. Saturn re-treads 14°45′ down to 7°56′ Aries. Charts with points in that band — or square/opposite it in early-to-mid Cancer, Libra, or Capricorn — get the review pass.
Station direct — 11 December 2026, 7°56′ Aries. Forward motion resumes. Saturn clears the retrograde zone in spring 2027 with the third and final pass over the same degrees.

Show the maths
A station is found by computing Saturn's geocentric ecliptic longitude day by day and locating the moment its daily motion crosses zero. The 2026 figures:
Station retrograde: 27 July 2026
14°45' Aries (daily motion crosses 0°)
Retrograde arc: 14°45' -> 7°56' Aries (~6.8°)
Station direct: 11 December 2026
7°56' Aries
Duration: ~137 days (~4.5 months)
Sensitive degrees: ~6°-16° Aries (conjunction)
~6°-16° Cancer / Capricorn (square)
~6°-16° Libra (opposition)These dates are calculated from astronomical position data using the open-source astronomy-engine library — the same kind of high-precision ephemeris calculation used in scientific astronomy. They are not lookup-table approximations.

Frequently asked questions
When is Saturn retrograde in 2026?
Saturn stations retrograde on 27 July 2026 at 14°45′ Aries and stations direct on 11 December 2026 at 7°56′ Aries. The retrograde lasts about four and a half months, which is Saturn's normal annual pattern — it retrogrades once every year for roughly 140 days.
What does Saturn retrograde mean?
Saturn rules structure, commitments, boundaries, and long-term work. When Saturn appears to move backward, the traditional reading is a structural review: commitments made while Saturn moved direct get re-tested, shortcuts surface, and work that was rushed asks to be redone properly. It is read as an audit season rather than a building season.
Is Saturn retrograde bad?
Not in the classical reading. Saturn retrograde is considered constructive maintenance: the period rewards revising, consolidating, and finishing, and penalises skipping steps. Difficulty during a Saturn retrograde usually traces to structures that were already weak — the retrograde reveals them rather than causes them.
Will I feel Saturn retrograde 2026 personally?
It depends on your chart. The 2026 retrograde re-treads 7°56′ to 14°45′ Aries, so it matters most for people with planets or angles in roughly 6°–16° of Aries, Libra, Cancer, or Capricorn. It also overlaps the Saturn return of people born with Saturn in mid-Aries — mainly 1996-98 births having a first return and 1967-69 births having a second.
Does Saturn retrograde delay things?
The traditional association is slower progress on Saturn-ruled matters — contracts, career milestones, long-term commitments — while the review runs. The astronomy is simply that Saturn re-crosses the same seven degrees three times over about a year, so anything tied to those degrees in a chart has a three-act arc: first contact, retrograde review, final direct pass.
How is this different from Mercury retrograde?
Mercury retrograde is a three-week calendar event that happens three times a year and is not tied to a narrow degree band long enough to read personally. Saturn retrograde holds a seven-degree zone for four and a half months, which is why it can be read against a specific chart with dates. Zoracle calculates slow-planet contacts and does not treat Mercury retrograde as a personal chart event.
